Yard Work After the storm

Unfortunately, 30 minutes after we finished our work for the day, the storm materialized. Wind and rain. Oh, well. The trees are still full of leaves. It will take a few more weeks for them all to fall off. At least the garden was pulled and the weeds and flower beds were cleared.

Yard Work, Saturday, October 30, 2010

Family that works together, stays together.

Front yard and garden. Drew and Madi pulled all the veggies from the plants before we pulled them out of the ground. Jared made salsa. Anyone want jalapeno peppers and chili peppers? The cucumbers were yummy. We also got a bucket full of tomatoes.

This is the back yard after we were done. Drew mowed for a little while, Madi raked, and Adam and Lukey "helped" with the leaves. Jared used the blower to get the leaves in a central location to be picked up by the mower or put in t the four wheeler trailer.

Yard work today. Spent about 5 hours in the yard. We raked leaves, weeded the flower beds, mowed the lawn and pulled the garden. We tried not to spend all day in the yard because of all the activities we wanted to do for the evening. It was a nice day and hadn't started to get windy or rainy yet. Here are a few pictures of our handy work.

I scored 10 points today. Today was my free day. I ran 4 1/2 miles today and spent 5 hours in the yard. I will post Halloween pictures in the next post.

Date Night tonight. We try to make sure we get away once a week. The activities vary, but they usually involve food and time undisturbed for talking and enjoying each other's company. We went to dinner at Rumbi. It is a Hawaiian type grill. The flavors include mango, pineapple and rice or salads. They do have sandwiches with regular or sweet potato fries. I had a yummy salad of course with mango salsa, Jared had the Luau pork rice bowl. We were able to get out a little after six so we made it to an early movie. We saw "Secretariat". It was a good movie about the underdog horse and a remarkable woman that could see his potential. The woman, Penny Tweety, was a mother and housewife when her father died. She took over the horse farm and brought "Big Red" to the fulfill his ultimate potential as a triple crown winner. I could see her struggles as a wife and mother and trying to balance everything that that entails.

As a working mom, I feel her pain and teared up just as she did when she missed something memorable in one of her children's lives. How often do we as mothers do that to ourselves? We really are doing the best we can everyday, yet we do not feel as if we measure up. I know I am doing the very best that I know how. I had a good example of that in my own mother. She raised 8 children, pretty much by her self. We all turned out to be responsible adults that strive to live the gospel in all they do. Thanks Mom. You gave me a great example to follow and I will try to pass that on to my own children.

We had a pretty good day today. Drew wore his Halloween costume to school today. He was "Earth Wind" a love child from the 60's. He wore his guitar case on his back stuffed with a pillow and blanket so that it would keep shape. He had a tie dye shirt on, and one of Jared's lace up collared shirts from trek. He rolled up his Levi's, and had on his high tops. He topped it off with a Jedi cloak I made him when he was three, and a strip of fabric, that is usually the belt for the cloak around his head. He was a sight. It was awesome. He and Luke helped me pick the pumpkins in the garden. Luke was thrilled. He has been growing these from seedlings. He has watered them and tended them. The orange one next to him is his "Punkin"

Adam and Madi wore their costumes as well. Adam wore his lacrosse gear, and Madi her sparkly rock star garb. They had a parade at school that Lukey and I attended. I haven't been able to go for a few years so I was thrilled to be able to go this time. I enjoyed talking with my friend Deb for a while. I haven't had the opportunity to be social, just to be social for a long time and I glad I took the time.

I made sugar cookies today. Luke and I rolled most of them out and decorated a few. He was determined to take some to his friends N and J. He was quite specific about the color of frosting and the treats to go on top. We colored white frosting blue and green. We made a blue ghost and a green "punkin". We covered them with candy corns and chocolate chips. They were very sweet after all the extras. The kids loved them and he was very proud of his creations.

I scored 9 points today. I indulged in a few cookies. They were very sweet after no sweets for so long. I liked them better without the frosting. I ran this morning. It was a good run about 3 1/2 miles. Luke and I took cookies to some neighbors. We read scriptures this morning as a family. We read in 1 Nephi 15:34. No unclean thing can enter the kingdom of God. We had a good discussion about what it means to stay clean and then to become clean again if we have made mistakes. With Madi's baptism coming up it was a good opportunity to talk about that. It amazes me how much they understand. I am grateful.

Off to bed so I can get up to do a day of yard work and then trick or treating. It will be a fun day!

Thursday, October 28, 2010

Busy day. I just got home from work. I work late on Thursdays so I don't get off until 8:30 pm. The kids are sleeping, except for Drew of course. He can't usually sleep unless everyone is home. He has always been that way.

Got my haircut today. I had her cut 3 inches off. It needed some attention. It is still long, but feels much better. Luke got to wear his costume to school today. They had a Halloween party today. I will have to get the details in the morning when he wakes up. Drew had lacrosse today. His season is officially over today. I missed the game. We had to have a sitter come for a few hours because Daddy wasn't home yet. Cute neighbor girl from across the street. Everyone seemed happy.

I scored 10 points today. I slept in and exercised at home today. I had the opportunity to serve a friend today. I appreciate opportunities like that. I think I will make sugar cookies in the morning so tomorrow may be more difficult to score all 10. I am saving my free day for Saturday. It is Halloween after all. I think they will be worth it though. lol

Luke and his preschool friends, N and J. They made these cute visors at school. They had animals and Noah and his Ark on them. It was someones birthday and Sister Bailey had a beach party for them. They were so pleased.

It was the first snowfall of the year. Four inches. All the trees still have leaves so they were very laden with weight. It didn't last long. We still have some snow where there was shade. We got new snow gear for those that did not have it. Drew and Adam got new boots and all the boys got new "glubs" as Luke would say. Drew's feet are huge. He is now a size 10 and probably 5' 6 1/2" tall. It is surreal to hug him now that he is almost as tall as I am. The kids spent about an hour playing in the snow. They were all warm and dry.

I had a semi leisurely day. Ran errands while Luke was at school. Went visiting teaching and had brunch with a gal I have taught for the entire time I have been in the ward--8 years. She has had health issues the past few years. She is on the up side from Leukemia. She had a bone marrow transplant 8 months ago. She is a very inspiring lady. We have experienced similar things in life. She is a little older than me, and I have learned a lot from her courage. The relief society presidency wanted to make changes to my route last year and take her away from me. I have lost most of the others I had, which is fine, I don't mind getting to know new people. But this sister and I have been through a lot in the last 8 years together. I told them no, she was going through a difficult time and I did not think it was wise to change things. I felt it was the best thing at the time, and I am glad I did.

I scored 9 points today. I am tired and need to sleep in tomorrow. I need a break from the 5:15 am alarm. 6:30 sounds glorious. I did yoga today. It was great. I had a cat nap and my uplifting reading was reading stories to my 3 year old as he snuggled down and we both fell asleep. I loved it. He won't be little forever. I am trying to enjoy it while i can.

Tuesday, October 26, 2010

Had a good day today. Started the day early at 5:15 am. I ran 4 miles this morning. I got back at 6:30 am. Jared was already gone for work. He had an early meeting in Salt Lake and had to go to Lindon to pick something up first. I was showered and dressed by 7 am. I made breakfast, took Drew to school at 7:15 am, came home and got Luke dressed and everybody else taken care of. I left the house with Luke at 7:50 am. I picked up the rest of the Jr high carpool and went back to the jr high to drop them off. (Even though my kid is not there, I am still responsible for carpool for the week.) I dropped Luke off at the sitter and went to work. It was a busy day at work, and went quickly. Nothing really dramatic happened and I felt I accomplished quite a bit. I enjoyed it today.

Drew went to school early today to take a test. Unfortunately, his teacher was ill and didn't arrive in time for him to complete it. He did finish it in class however. He also stayed after school and took another test. he scored 77% on his US history States and Capitols test. He brought his grade from an F to a B-. He is going to take it again in the morning to see if he can improve it. He also brought up his Science grade from and F to a C. He was a bit disappointed but you can't turn all your homework in one day and expect 100%. He is learning there are consequences to his choices. I hope it is something he will take and improve on. Hey, a girl can dream ;).

Jared came home early today. His day started early, so it ended early. Because I was working he was doing afternoon carpool. He arrived late and therefore missed the kids. They either walked or called for a ride. It was rather ugly outside so I assume the later. I will find out tomorrow who I need to make it up to. He did find Drew who was taking his test. He brought him home and got Luke by 3:45 pm. Just in time to be home for Adam and Madi to get home from school. I was so glad have him home. Daddy is very capable and everyone is happy when they are home, even when I am not. It is is reassuring. He is determined to clean out the freezer before winter. He is slowly pulling things out to cook daily. We had chicken noodle soup yesterday from the freezer, and we had Mexican crock pot chicken today. It was pretty good. It was left over from last year when I was part of a meal exchange.

Adam rode his bike to school today and Madi rode her Rip-stick. She is getting pretty good at it. Luke went to the sitter and to preschool. He goes to Sister Bailey's for preschool. Sister Bailey is a lady in our ward. She is so cute. She teaches primary at church and his so cute with the kids. Madi also went to her school 3 years ago. He loves it because his best friends in the neighborhood, go there. These are twin boys that are two weeks younger then him. This is the reason he goes to preschool at the moment. He is in heaven.

I scored 10 points today.

Baking Powder Biscuits

Another crazy monday. Worked 11 hours. Jared drove Jr high carpool, dropped off Luke and made dinner. He attempted to make biscuits without success. I got home and both Madi and Luke, said "Mommy, will you make biscuits? Daddy did it wrong." It was very cute and funny, to me. Daddy didn't think it was so funny. I can't fault him, I have more expericence. I have been making "Clabber Girl Baking Powder biscuits" since I was 8.It was on the back of the container. I have modified it a little. Here is my recipe:

Tracie's Baking Powder Biscuits

3 1/2 C. sifted white or wheat flour

2 Tbsp. Baking powder

2 tsp Salt

2/3 C. Crisco Shortening

1 1/2 C Skim Milk

Sift all the dry ingredients together. Add Shortening and use a pastry cutter to combine. It will look like cornmeal when you are done. Add milk and mix just until combined. Roll out on floured surface. Cut out bisccuits with the top of a cup, or a bottle ring from a canning jar. Bake at 425 degree oven on an ungreased cookie sheet. Makes about 20-22 biscuits. Bake for 10-12 min. They are yummy. Brush with butter after removing from the oven.

They are a favorite at our house. We serve them with chicken noodle soup, topless chicken pot pie, and stew. Enjoy!

I earned 9 points today. No exercise today, there was no time.

Sunday, Oct 24, 2010

Sundays are usually a restful day. However, I was on call today. I have been called in twice so far. Once before church then once in the middle of sacrament meeting. Funny story. I dropped my pager this morning and the battery fell out. This reset all the settings on my pager, including the time, date and the usual "Vibe" settings. Well, I reset the settings with the exception of the alarm setting. So in the middle of a beautiful Cello and Piano duet this loud high pitched beeping goes off. I looked around to see who's phone had just gone off and realized it was me. Embarrassing. Jared just smiled and I quickly turned it off. I waited for the song to end before I hurried out to check it. It was awesome. I returned in time to hear the last 15 minutes of the lesson. It was on Brother Bednar's talk from conference about teaching our children the gospel. I am so glad I went. Sister Pearson, the teacher, is always very insightful. I love her lessons. It was inspiring and gave some great suggestions, for letting the spirit teach. Allow for the opportunity and don't be afraid to share your testimony with your children at unplanned moments. I will try to look for those opportunities.

Jared was in charge of dinner today because I was not really available. He pulled out a roast and put it in the crock pot. He seared the roast and then added carrots, onions and potatoes. He seasoned it with the spices from the cupboard. He is very creative and it always tastes amazing. He even made gravy, that was delicious.

I spent the evening doing 8th grade homework. Not fun. Drew is failing 2 classes and has a d- in another. He is missing assignments, that have been mostly finished in his black hole of a notebook. He is grounded for the next 2 weeks because he lied to us about having all his homework turned in. He was pretty upset about missing the school dance and trick-or-treating. Nevertheless, it is a consequence to the choices he made. It sucks being a parent sometimes.

I just finished week 4 of my challenge. I scored 68 points this week, due to Madi's birthday. I am not looking forward to a busy week of work everyday through Thursday. I hope it goes better than I expect.

Adam's Last Fall Lacrosse Game

Adam #16 running for the ball. He was playing Middy a the time. He also earned $3. One dollar for each legal hit that sent his opponent to the ground. He had an awesome game. We had so much fun watching him play. We were very proud of him. You can see the grin on his face. That say's it all!

War of Wills

Tonight we went to the school carnival. It was decent and had a "Haunted Stage". Madi wanted to go thru it so badly, then was terrified. They ran out of food after 8 pm so the kids just got soda and Adam got pasta.

Luke threw a tantrum before getting in the car because he had to wait to drink his soda till we got home. It escalated to Jared pulling over to let him out of the car and walk home.

Although we were only 100 yds from home Adam and Madi also burst into tears and held on tight to Luke, screaming "No! Daddy". Jared got back in the car and gave them all a stern look. I couldn't help it and burst into silent laughter. That sent Jared into silent laughter while the three sobbed in the back seat. I laughed so hard I was crying.
Well, he is still crying and Jared has put him on the front porch until he calms down. He opens the door every 1 minute and talks to him. Its been 20 minutes. He only has to say "Sorry Daddy" and Daddy will snuggle him. He has refused and has resorted to ringing the doorbell. He wants me to save him but I can't. It's one Bull headed man against an equally bull headed boy.

He has apologized and is now snuggled in Daddy's arms. I can see this will not be the last time they go head to head. He is only 3! We are in trouble.

I worked 10 hours today. Nice day that went quick. I scored 10 points today. My internal clock woke me up at 5 am. I am tired. Looking foward to a day off tomorrow.

Madi turns 8!

Our daughter turned eight years old today. I can't believe it. Where does time go? Was it eight years ago I held my baby girl for the first time? I remember being in labor for two days. I ha premature for 3 months on and off. I was finally 36 weeks. Every time I had gone went to the hospital, before they would give me a morphine shot to stop the contractions and send me home. I was already on Brethene which made my heart race, but it didn't always work. So on Oct, 21, 2002 the contractions weren't stopping. They couldn't really help me with meds due to two previous c-sections. They decided on a amnio to check her lungs. That was not a pleasant experience. I remember a "Zinging" pain as the dr went through the placenta. The fluid removed proved to the Dr and insurance company that she was indeed ready. We delivered a healthy baby girl at 5:17 pm by c-section. She weighed in at 6 lbs 9 oz and 18 inches long. She had tons of dark hair and she was beautiful. She was much more femine than the boys and she had my hands. Drew was 5 at the time and Adam was 21 months. Drew was excited and Adam was clueless.I forgot how little he was.

Birthdays at our house consist of birthday balloons and presents in your room when you wake up. Your favorite meal for dinner and lunch with Mom and Dad. We usually check them out of school for lunch. They choose the local and we enjoy. Today Miss Madi decided that Wendy's was the place. I tried to disuade her without success. She wanted a jr bacon cheeseburger, nuggets, fries, and a frosty.(All from the $1 menu :)). I got a salad of course. She also decided it would be more fun to invite her brother to join us. So we got take out and ate in the school cafeteria. As you can see from the photo, she was thrilled. They really are cute when they get along.

The got everything she wanted. Including a Rip-Stik I got online and had to overnight for the occasion. They only sell pink online you know. I made her her favorite meal, Shepherds pie, tracie style. And made her Chocolate puding Candy Bar cake. I had to work so they are waiting to do cake and ice cream when I get there. I haven't decided if I will endulge or not. Your only daughter only turns 8 once right? I'll let you know what I decide.

Madi Goes to Achievement Days

Madi's 8th Birthday is tomorrow. Her best friend HJ's Mom is in charge of Achievement Days. She invited Madi to come today. She also gave her a welcome kit, which included a note, flashing pumpkin necklace, Twix candy bar and pink nail polish. She was so excited as you can see from the picture. They made notes for their primary chorister, and took her a gift. She recently had a baby, so their leader made a blanket and they made cards. She was in heaven.

I worked 10 hours today. I got up at 5 am to exercise. Unfortunately, it cut my sleep to 6 hours getting up so early. I did yoga this morning. I had to be at work at 6:30 am. It was not the best day. My first patient was from hell. Very needy and very vocal. I started out with a house patient that didn't get done yesterday. My table wasn't working properly either and wouldn't come out of the room. Needless to day, I was 45 minutes behind after 1 patient. Everyone I scanned seemed to need extra attention today. My scanning was more difficult than usual and the new upgrade on the machine made me feel rather inadequate. There are things I don't know and I don't like that. My own insecurities I know, but I still don't like it. I will work harder to learn the new capabilities of the new machine. I am working a bit more at this location, so I will have the opportunity to do so.

Adam's treats went well today. Everyone liked them. Jared turned down a fishing trip to the Green River to be scout leader, and Dad. I felt bad about that, but it was his choice. Drew was a teenager today. He did not check in, which is not like him. Then he went to scouts with Dad, but I didn't know that. I was a bit worried, therefore, grumpy when he got home. Lukey is his usual happy go lucky self, until he gets over tired. Then he gets busy crazy or whiny. He was all of the above.

I am ready for bed. I scored 9 points today due to the sleep, darn it. No chance to nap today. I read an article today about knowledge, out of the Nov 2008 Ensign. "Even a Child can Understand", by Elder Gerald Causse Of the Seventy. I love the scripture in D & C 93: 96 "The Glory of God is intelligence." I remember reading that on the wall at the entrance of BYU. I thought that was really nea. I was 8 at the time.

Adam's first dessert

Adam made his first dessert today. He was asked to make something for den meeting tomorrow. We blew it last week and forgot, so we made sure we did not forget this week. He made "Fruity Rice Crispies." He took his job very seriously. He covered the pan with butter as well as his hands before pressing it into the pan. I had him wash his hands first of course. He melted the butter in the pan then added the marshmallows. When they had melted to creamy, he added them to the 7 C of Crispies. He stirred until well blended and poured onto the cookie sheet. We let them cool for a few hours before we cut them. He placed them on a plate stacked in a pyramid. He was very meticulous about the pyramid. Here is the recipe we made up for the occasion:

1 cube of butter

3-4 C marshmallows

7 C. Crispie Rice cereal

Anyone know how to get them crunchy? We always do them chewy. I am sure they tasted delicious. I refrained. :)

I scored 10 points today. I ran 5 + miles today. It was a little slower, but further than I have gone in a long time.

Monday, 10.18.10

We had a good day today. We started our day with scripture study and breakfast together. I did homework with Adam and Madi before school so we wouldn't have to do it after school. Adam had some extra work to do. Remember the missing homework from SEPs? Well this is the last week of the quarter so it has to be done. He finished all of it with the exception of a sheet of cursive. That he finished at school. However, he brought home his new homework for the day and a half sheet of math that needed to be done. So we did that after school. I helped "remind" the kids to do their chores. Madi was admonished to one to many times and had to wait to play because she was weeping and wailing about vaccuming and sweeping. Drew wasn't pleased with me either. He asked me to sign a paper saying he had studied for his science test. I actually made him study. I know somehting of the subject of energy. What a mean mom.( I just hope it helps him on his test.)

I did the usual 8 loads of laundry, cleaned house and paid bills. I got to spend some quality time with Lukey today. He watched Fox and the Hound, Chicken Run, Bug's life and Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. I did work on the computer while I sat with him. He is so fun lately. His reasoning is so cute and he makes us laugh. Especially when he is telling us a story. Yesterday he told both Jared and I the same story at different times. "I not the one that left the toys on the floor in the bathroom after my baf. It Adam who took them out of the baf." Which is technically true. Adam went into take a bath after Lukey. He took the toys out and put them on the floor out of the tub. But he was the one that put them in the tub in the first place. We both laughed, a lot. Its something new everyday. We love it. We know we are lucky to have him.

We had Chicken Divan for dinner. Here is my version of the recipe:

2 Cans reduced fat Cream of Chicken Soup
1 Can Skim Milk
1 C light Mayo
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1/2 tsp curry powder
1 tsp Garlic Salt
1/4 tsp fresh ground pepper
2 C Cubed cooked chicken or turkey
4 C cooked Brown rice
2 C fresh or frozen broccoli
1 C. Cheese

Combine soup, milk, mayo, lemon juice and spices until smooth. In a 9 x 13 inch casserole dish, layer first the rice, then the broccoli, chicken, sauce and cheese on top. Cover with foil and bake at 375 degree oven for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake until cheese is melted and the casserole is bubbly.
*Time saver tip: Use rotisserie chicken pulled of the carcass or packaged all white meat chicken packaged in 4 Lbs pkg from Costco. You get about 8 cups of chicken. Put in the freezer for quick use later for another meal.

Jared has accomplished his latest task of pulling all the music off the ipods to the computer. He had to get a new battery for his iPod, that was not charging. We now have working iPods with actual music we can listen to on each. Yeah, now I have music when I run or ride my bike. Way to go Daddy.

I scored 10 points today. I did slow Yoga today. It was way hard, and I am sore already. Thanks Sus. I love making sure I go to bed early, reading my scriptures and serving others. I find myself looking for new things to do daily. This is week 4 day 1. Almost 1 month and half way there. Yippee.

Drew gets his Life Merit Badge & Banana Cake

Sometimes your kids do something that amazes you. Occasionally they are recognized for it publicly and sometimes you are the only one that sees it. Today it was something public. I am grateful for these little glimpses of who they have the potential to be.

The Boy Scouts of America program has been around for 100 years this year. I have always had in my life, since my father and grandfather were big into scouting. I remember my dad as a Scoutmaster when I was probably 7 or 8. He was signing merit badge cards and approval for Eagle projects. He took is job very seriously. I have realized now as mother to a scout and a wife to a scout leader that it is a serious job. It is a program that produces responsible young men. I am grateful for it.

Today was the Court of Honor for troop 1120. There were 10 scouts at the court. 6 of those had rank advancements. Drew received his Life Merit Badge and rank advancement. He pinned the heart pin on my sweater. I almost cried. I got a little misty eyed. I told him I was proud of him and gave him a hug. He was a little embarassed but ok. I was just so pleased with him. He doesn't get it but someday he will. Jared is always telling me we are raising adults and not children. I know he is right and I try to keep that in mind when I am talking to my children.

Someday they will be adults, with families, jobs, and lives of their own. It is my job to train them for what they will need. It is an awesome responsibility that can get overwhelming. I just pray daily that I do the right things to help get them where they need to be. That is why we do the things we do everyday. I just hope it is enough.

I had 9 points today. I made banana cake and had to have some. It was so yummy. Here is the recipe, I got it from a neighbor several years ago:

Banana Cake

Cream:
1/2 + 1 T shortening
1 1/2 C sugar

Then add: 2 eggs, set aside

Sift: 2 C. Flour
1/4 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt

Combine: 1 1/4 C mashed ripe banana
1/2 C Skim Milk soured by 1/2 tsp vinegar
2 tsp Mexican vanilla

Alternate adding the flour mixture and banana mixture until all ingredients are combined. Pour into a greased 9 x 13 pan or muffin tins. I double the recipe and place in 11 x 16 (I think) jellyroll pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes in the jellyroll or 30 minutes in the 9 x 13. Directly after removing from the oven, rub the top with butter or margerine and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
It can be served with homeade cream cheese frosting, but is just as good without.

Enjoy!

Saturday, Oct.16th

What a day! We accomplished a lot today.

I slept in until almost 7 am. I went running at 7:30 with a group of four today. It was a little more relaxed than I am used to, but so fun. I started running with a few ladies that want to step it up. They have been running before but want to plan some new goals. I need some consistency with my running so I figured it was a win win. I have talked these ladies into doing a triathlon next year. We are all turning 40 and need a goal.

Jared was up a little before me. He went to bed early last night so woke up early. He is trying to get reset his internal clock. He is feeling better and wants to start exercising. I am so glad he is feeling better for the most part. His tummy has been rolling today unfortunately. He said he couldn't sleep anymore. He was thinking of all the things he wants to do and those he needs to do. Our yard needs some ward done--trimming shrubbery, pulling the garden, the pasture needs work, and one of our fence posts in the back fence needs to be raised. He chose the fence post. Winter is coming. The fence post is attached to the gate to the back pasture. It has sunk, making it difficult to open when there is ice and snow on the ground in the winter. He had to dig out the post by hand, then reset it. He spent the morning digging, mixing concrete, pouring concrete and making his post "plumb". His little 3 year old side kick was so excited to help. They were very cute working together. The post took longer to set then expected. The concrete he thought was Quik-set, was actually not. It was set before dark, but the only that needs to be finished is the latch hardware. That will have to wait until tomorrow. He mended a few things around the house and replaced some lightbulbs as well.

After my run, I rounded up Madi and Adam to work in the yard. Madi mowed the edges of the yard, Adam scooped the poop and I trimmed. Jared was going to mow, because it was his turn. We fight about who gets to mow. We both like to mow. Trimming is not our favorite. Anyway, he went to get materials for the fence, light bulbs, and gorilla glue to repair a few things around the house. I trimmed the yard. It had been awhile, so it took a little while. It looks beautiful though. After I trimmed, I started on the mowing. I got mostly through the side yard before he got back. He wasn't pleased, but he was busy, so I got to finish. hehe I love to mow. It is something that gets done around the house that stays done. Its not like housework. Once it is done it stays done and looks awesome. Adam did the blower when I was done. He and Madi did a good job. Madi is new to the task but loves it.

Once the yard was done, it was on to the next task. Madi and I addressed her Baptism invitations. She decided she wanted to invite her teachers from school, her primary class and a few neighbors. She did a good job. We will deliver the ones we don't mail tomorrow.

Next, Jared and I did our shopping. We were both tired by this time and it went pretty quick. Jared's tummy was not feeling so we hurried. Once we got home we got the groceries put away and decided to take a break. Luke was having a melt down because I wouldn' t let him play with the sugar letters I got at the store for "Madi's Birtday" cake. (I love the way he says birthday, so I keep asking him to day it) He needed snuggles, so I obliged. He fell asleep in about 10 minutes. Jared and I snoozed too. It felt so good.

I made awesome chili for dinner. I am going to post the recipe. It is a Weight Watcher's recipe, I got from my Aunt MB. It is a great recipe for the coming fall, and it is all legal for my challenge.

WW Chili
----------
1 lb Ground Turkey (I used 93% Lean ground beef)
2 garlic cloves
2 Tbsp Chili Powder
1 tsp Cumin
28 oz Crushed Tomatoes
15 oz Kidney beans (I used Chili beans and Black Beans)
1 Chopped onion
1 can Green Chilies
2 Tbsp Tomato Paste

Brown turkey, onion and garlic until done. Add remaining ingredients and simmer. I doubled the recipe. I don't know the points count. I will find out though. My family loved it. I served it with cornbread.

It was another busy day. It went very quick. I am headed to the shower then bed. I scored 10 points today. I also did my bonus challenge this week and wrote a note to a friend I have lost touch with. It was a quiet day for the most part. Drew is still gone with his friend. I have missed him today. Adam spent the afternoon hanging out with a friend. He had a lot of fun playing lacrosse and whittling. Madi went to a friends while we went shopping. Her friend had hurt her arm and had a wrap on it, so she decided she needed a arm sling. Kids are funny. Luke is growing up so fast. He is this little boy that tries to reason with me about things. His speech is improving. He is very fun and we are enjoying every minute.

Friday, October 15

It has been a long week and I am feeling it tonight. I worked 30 hours this week. The kids also had Fall Break so they had no school yesterday and today. Jared was home yesterday, but today had to work until 3. Drew watched the kids. They all hung out at home.

I was up at 5:45am to exercise and went to work at 7:30. I worked until 5:15pm. I saw my newest nephew K12 when I went to drop off baptism invites to Madi's cousin. (I had them made at Costco. They are being baptized at the same time. We did the same for Adam and his Mc Cousins.). My darling Niece K4 made whole wheat cinnamon rolls for a MV Bruin Cross Country bake sale. I just had to support her. They were delicious. I had one without frosting so I was legal :).

I got pizza on the way home for the kids and Friday Night Pizza night! Drew went with a friend and his family to a cabin down south. I had a salad. (My freeday has been used). I got mauled by the kids and the fight over who gets to snuggle me. I'm glad I was missed.

I am going to indulge myself and watch "Julie & Julia" and then go to bed.

I scored 10 pt today.

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Today is officially Jared's 39th birthday. He didn't sleep that great but feels so much better. His backpain is almost gone! Yeah!!!

I got up to run at 5:15 am and he had been up for a few hours. After running I had to go to a meeting so I had to rush off.

The kids made me breakfast in bed for my birthday so they were so excited to do it for Daddy. Fried eggs, homemade hashbrowns, toast and chocolate milk. Not bad for 9, almost 8 and 3. Drew was in bed I'm sure. :). Daddy loved it. Adam made him a card as well to the #1 Dad in the Whole world. So cute.

After my meeting I was home for about 1 1/2 hours before heading back. I ran Drew to Provo to go to observe County Court for his Citizenship in the Community Merit badge, and to volunteer at the Food Bank. Grandma Mattie joined him becauase I had to work. He accomplished everthing required and will be getting a rank advancement to Life Scout. This next one is Eagle Scout. He is right in track. I was very proud of him today. Thanks again Grandma for your help.

Jared took the rest if the kids fly fishing. Lukey was so excited. The other two went inder duress, but enjoyed themselves for the most part.Madi got stung by a bee on her chest and Adam kept tangling the line. It wasn't the most successful fly trip, but memories were made and they learned a lot. Jared spent his birthday fishing and that was his wish. He is such a good Dad. We are lucky to have such a good man in our family. We Love You!

I scored 10 points today.

Adam had his first lacrosse scrimmage with a new team. He gotthere late because I got stuck at work. He played for all of 45 minutes. He played defense. The coach was impressed and he was invited to play in their last game. He is thrilled.

I got a lot done today. I was up at 5:15 am. I went to yoga. I have a friend I work with that teaches at her home. I am her only student that early in the morning. It was a hard class today. I loved it. Yoga is only something I have been doing for the about 18 months ago so. I started doing yoga when I did the p90X videos. Yoga was by far my favorite video. It is much harder than yoga usually is. I have been doing the 10-minute training videos by Tony Horton, the same guy that does P90X. They are only 10 minutes each. I love them. I do 3 at a time with a warm up and cool down. It takes about 45 minutes. I see results, especially in my core.

Well, back to my day. After Yoga, I got back to wake up Drew and get myself together. I was dressed by 7:15. Made breakfast and got my family together for scriptures. We had breakfast sandwiches and fruit. Scripture study was about the "great and abominable church" or the Whore of world". Pretty powerful language. Adam and I had a nice discussion about it. He can remember details about things that amaze me. I need to figure out how to harness that talent. He needs to realize he is amazing. I think that is my task as a mother. Make each of my children realize their true potential.

I did two loads of wash, went thru the mail, paid some bills, and cleaned the bathrooms. I went to Salt Lake to pick up a check, went shopping to return some shirts I got for Luke, that we didn't need after all. I got some hand me downs from one of Luke's cousins and didn't need them after all. I exchanged the new things for some pants and got some good deals at Children's Place. They are having a 50% off clearance plus 20% off. I scored some cute jeans for Madi, a pair of pants for Adam, and a darling pair of jammies for Luke for Christmas. All that for $25. I love a deal!!!

Luke took a nap so I jointed him for a short cat nap. We received the new Ensign last week. It is about Temples. It is beautiful. I enjoyed reading it today. I did 3 more loads of wash and folded clothes. Helped Adam with his homework. Madi didn't have homework, Yeah!! Took Luke to play with his "friends" Nicky and Jaxon. Twins from the ward. He was so excited and had so much fun. Now I am off to make dinner. Fajitas. I am sure I will finish the wash and hopefully have family night. Usually consists of watching "Chuck" together. We all secretly want to be spy's. (jk-except for Adam. hehe)

Drew stayed after school to do more service. I think he spent about 1 hr 45 minutes. only 4 1/2 to go. He walked home to a friends and went to the BYU Lacrosse scrimmage. He is growing up and almost as tall as me. Last week he was three wasn't he?

Funny story about haircuts yesterday. I cut Jared's hair and Luke wanted to help. He got out the small clippers and ran it along his own head. He now looks like a badger. A reverse stripe along the top of his head. It is awesome. We couldn't help but laugh. I did take pictures and will post them tomorrow. I tried to cover it with a faux-hawk today. It didn't work. Oh well, it will grow.

I scored 10 points today. I am enjoying my clothes getting looser. I haven't stepped on the scale yet but will tomorrow. I have not been hungry and I am happy.

10.10.10

Sunday--Today was fast sunday. We have church at 11 am so we did not have to rush right out of bed. We watched my favorite sunday show, CBS Sunday Morning. We have been watching it since we have been married. I don't always get to watch but I really enjoy it. Jared was kicked out of the bed by three little snugglers. All wanting to be next to me. He was a bit miffed, but didn't go far.

Drew had fast offerings duty this morning so he and I were dressed by 9:30 am. I wasn't ready but I was dressed. We did get to church on time, which isn't always the case. We had a good day at church. Lukey loves nursery and is always so excited about his papers that he colors.

It was a restful afternoon. I got a quick snooze, in the quiet. The kids were busy in the basement together. It was great. We grilled steak and spare ribs, mashed potatoes from the garden, and cucumber tomato salad also from the garden. Awesome way to break a fast.

I am off to cut Jared's hair. He has been asking for me to cut it for a few weeks so I better get to it. I scored 10 points today and 70 points for week two. We start week three tomorrow.

Busy Saturday

Busy day! Up at 7:15 to get the kids to Lacrosse. They loved it. Adam is not afraid to play with the big boys or knock em down. He knocked Drew on his can. He didn't know what him him.

I mowed the yard and helped Madi weed the front flower beds. I miss good soil. Ours is awful at the moment.

I picked up the kids from lacrosse and went for a bike ride. I like my new bike :).

By this time it was 2 pm. Jared arrived home at 3 pm. It was a good trip. He spent a few hours in his float tube. Dry as a bone in his new SIMS waters (they are 6 months old). Heaven. He caught a rainbow trout.

I scored 10 pts today. I am off to bed.

Friday, October 8th, 2010

Well, today was an adventure. Both Jared and I had the day off. Jared went on a scout camp out this evening, so he took the day off to "prepare.' He had an agenda today, so I went along for the ride. Our original list consisted of Sportsman's Warehouse to find a new spool for his fly fishing reel. He mentioned on the way to Provo, we needed to get gas before we made it back.! (That is important for later.)

We went to four stores before we found the perfect new reel. Park's Sprotsman's had the right thing. Happy Birthday Sweetheart!!! He does have his birthday next week. He loves shopping for himself. I do not on the other hand. I like to be surprised. It makes it difficult to surprise him, so I have to pay attention and keep a list. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't.

The next stop was to be lunch then Costco. We made it to 500 East in American Fork. While waiting for the light, the truck started shuttering. "Oh Yeah! We need some gas." Unfortunately, we waited a little too long. We were in the middle lane and made it part way thru the intersection and ran out of gas. We jumped out of the car and pushed it to the curb, however, it was still in the inside lane and in the street. Try pushing a F350 with no power steering uphill into a parking lot. I enlisted the help of the workers inside the Safety and Emission we were in front of. I had to laugh at the situation. My sweet husband is conscientious of a lot of things. But how much gas in the tank is not one of them. He runs out of gas in his work truck almost once a month. He gets after me when I am running on fumes, and I had to return the favor, tongue in cheek. We both had a nice laugh about it. After 5 trips to the gas station for gas x 3, starting fluid and gas additive and an hour and a half later, our laughing wasn't as cheerful. However, I think it is better to laugh than to cry or get upset.

It shot most of the day. We did make it to Costco and back in time to get Jared off with the scouts. Drew didn't get to go because he has lacrosse camp in the morning. Adam will be going as well. He is so excited. Jared got to go sans the children, with his fly rod , new reel, and float tube. I hope he has fun, even though he is with the scouts.

Madi had her field trip today. She wasn't that pleased with the turn out. The walked about a mile each way to and from the Equestrian park in Lehi. They talked about cows apparently and farm stuff. Not something she was excited about since "I already know all that." I took a few pictures of her for her baptism invitations. She wasn't that excited about doing it and changing her clothes. she was pleased with the results and enjoyed the attention. They turned out darling. I will post some tomorrow.

We got pizza for dinner and watched Planet 51. The movie was nothing special. The kids liked it but I couldn't finish it. I am tired and will go to bed shortly.

I scored 10 points today. I ran 4 miles this morning. Read the New Era after Drew shared a thought with us. I took my free day today due to my adventures. I am off to bed. I have a busy day tomorrow. Yard work and all that, unless it rains. Hey, a girl can dream. :)

Week 2 Day 4

It was a busy day. I worked from 11:30 to 8:30 pm. Luke went to Brandee's.

The power went out. The kids, Madi and Adam, being industrious went to the neighbors. Lightning struck something in a rainstorm. They trudged through the storm ato get home.

Drew stayed after school to do service for his Citizenship in the Community merit badge. He spent 1 hr and 45 minutes of the 8 hours needed. He spent the time cleaning black marks off the floor. Drew played lacrosse after school in a few scrimmage games. He got hit in the right arm. He did something at lacrosse called "pwnd". It means he did something awesome. I missed it. Jared and the kids went out in the rain and enjoyed the game. That is the worst part about working late, I miss things.

I scored 10 points today. We read scriptures this morning. We read about the Indians in captivity and the prophecy coming true. And about the "plain and precious things" removed from the bible. 1 Nephi 13:24-30. We had a nice discussion about it with Drew and Adam. Drew requested we get back to our scripture study. I didn't think they noticed a difference. We may be slow but we have nice talks though. Drew says it makes his day better. With all the scary things out there, we need some armor to protect us from the elements. We try our best.

Parent Teacher Conference

Today was a good day. I went to the temple today while Luke was at school. He really loves it. I may increase his days. Right now he only attends on Wednesdays. My schedule is crazy and I don't want to overwhelm myself. But he loves it. So we will see. I did sealings today. I was so tired I was falling asleep waiting my turn. I just had to take a "sleepy" when I got home. It was glorious ;) .

We had parent teacher conference this afternoon for the elementary school. We saw Madi's teacher first. She is doing pretty good. Her reading last spring was at a 16. She is a good little reader, however, she has dropped to a 10. That means that she has been reading books that are too difficutl for her. I thought that was the case over the summer, but she is a very stubborn girl. (Jared says she is like her mother. I don't know what he is talking about.) Anyway, we will work on improving her reading and be more proactive in her daily reading. She also takes a bit long to do her work. She is a bit of a perfectionist, and will work on increasing her speed and not erasing her work.

They had a bookfair at the school as well. I thought we had Adam's SEP shortly after Madi's. Well it was a bit longer than expected. Even after we spent 20 minutes looking for books, and Adam picked out his Ferrari Poster we still had 40 minutes. They were selling $5 pizza for $8 with the PTA. I was not in the mood to entertain the kids, so we had dinner in the cafeteria. I did get a chance to visit with a friend and that was nice. I don't get to do that very often these days.

Adam's teacher says he is doing well. Except for the 5 assignments he is missing. We brought those home for him to finish this week. He even had all the assignments in his desk. Not done of course, but they were there. He is a chatter box, and gets along with everyone. We just need to work on getting all his assignments done and turned in. Then again, we still have to do that with Drew and he is in 8th grade.

I scored 9 points today. I had pizza for dinner with the kids. Good thing there is a bonus point avaiable for cleaning the fridge. I read about Aaron and the tabernacle in the Book of Exodus, I like that scripture. I also read the Friend with the Kids. It rained most of the day, so I exercised at home. I do like my 10-minute trainer videos. It kicked my can. I love it.

Overall, it was a very good day. I even finished the laundry and that makes it a ever better day.

Day 2 Week 2

I blogged yesterday on my blackberry. Hit the wrong button and lost it. I am technology challenged. What can I say?

We saw the Dr for Jared's back today. It went well. The Dr recommended a transforaminal epidural injection to introduce a steroid directly into the spinal canal. He will have it done next Wednesday. We are waiting for the right dr to do the procedure. Surgery is the last resort. Jared has three herniated discs, with associated annular tear of the disc and nerve impingement in L3, L4, and L5. That means that he has pain in his back with pain down his legs. His pain is real. He felt justified to hear it from someone else. They gave him a new medication to help with the pain and help his nerves to relax. He has taken one already and can feel a difference. He was pleased with the fact that it is not a narcotic. Taking drugs makes you kind of "heady" about them. He says it plays games with your head. Do you take it because you need it or because you want it? With the stigma that pain meds have and the problems that they can bring, I can understand what he is feeling.

I hope that he will feel the relief. I would really like my not so grumpy husband back. We will let you know how things go.

I scored 10 points today. I like looking for ways to serve others especially my family. My new favorite snack is dried blueberries and cashews. Fiber and Protein. Yummy.

Monday Monday

I spent 45 minutes posting yesterday and then lost it. I will try to remember what I said.

I worked 16 hours on Monday. I worked from 8:00 am to 11 pm. It was a long day. I missed my family today. Lukey cried when I talked with him on the phone. That is when working really is hard.

I scored 10 points today. I have realized that I can serve those closest to me best. My husband and my children really need me.I have been looking for ways to serve them in ways I usually wouldn't. It makes me a better wife and mother.

Our trip was very fun. We need to do it more often.

Maple Canyon

We decided to take a quick trip to Maple Canyon. It is located near Moroni, Utah. We have been there before and had so much fun rock climbing and hiking we decided to camp overnight this time.

What a day already. I did get called in at 1:30 am. My patient did not cooperate. Needless to say it was not the prettiest exam. I got home around 3 am. I was really close on my sleep today and slept until after 8. I think I will have to nap for a tille on the road toda to make up the difference. :)

Work before play is our family motto. We spend the morning until about noon. Jared did the grass and horses while I wrangled our children doing their own chores inside. We packed clothes etc as went.

Conference this morning was very uplifting. I wespecially enjoyed Elder Holland and Utchdorfs comments and the sweet sister that followed Elder Holland. I don't know her name. (I will find out and let you know)

Now we are on the road. It has been an adventure already. Jared's back is hurting him pretty severely today. He has been very short and grouchy. It has made him very tense. He refused to bail though. He is going with the scouts next weekend for Crawdad fishing at Straeberry. His exact words:
"If I am going to do it for the boys I better be willing to do it for my own family."

Although I might agree to a point, I am worried about him.I don't like seeing him hurt anymore than he likes to see me in pain. We see the Dr on tuesday and it won't be too soon.

We had a prayer as we left the house. We asked for the spirit to be with us. Everone is much calmer and quiet already.

Day 6, Week 1 points are 9. We are traveling and I had to have something for lunch ;.

Friday, October 1, 2010

Day 5 Week 1

I found out today that I actually earn 10 points everyday instead of 8. So that brings my totals up a little bit. I earned 10 points today. I ran this morning, and slept great. I woke up before my alarm and was ready to get up.

My morning went pretty well. I tried to let Jared sleep in a bit and his stupid phone woke him up. Ugh! Technology is not always a benefit. Drew and I read the New Era together. I made breakfast sandwiches with a new find. Whole Wheat Sandwich Thins. No complaints for the most part. I informed the family a few weeks ago I will not buy white bread anymore. They keep asking for an explanation and I keep giving them the same one. "Whole grains are better for all of us". They aren't complaining as loud as they used to.

Work went well and quickly. It was a busy day. Those are the best kind because you don't have to think to hard, just go with the flow. I have been working on an "Open" scanner for the past 18 months as well as a closed one. It is like speaking a new language. I know the words but can't always get it translate. I do alright for the most part, but it is challenging sometimes. I guess that is why I like it. It is always something new and makes me think. I know I am a better technologist because of it. I have learned to be more creative and not just stick to the same old way of doing things.

I am on call tonight. There is a new office girl at the hospital and she is pretty clueless. Poor thing was not informed of what to do and who to call in when. Oh well. I got to come home. I got called back shortly after, but didn't make it to the hospital before I realized the patient did not need to be done tonight at one hospital and not until 11 pm at the other. So I am waiting to find out about that one. However, I get to tuck my little ones into bed and snuggle before I go again. Thank goodness for small blessings.
